Liverpool are steadily leading the Premier League this season, despite not winning easily. They will now gear up for a Merseyside Derby when they will host Everton on Wednesday. Everton could not hold on to their lead and eventually met their second loss in a row over the weekend.

Liverpool (13-0-1) had a rather easy job in their home match against Brighton. Defender Van Dijk scored twice in the first 24 minutes of the match, while Brighton only scored a consolation goal towards the end of the match for the final 1-2. Liverpool again failed to keep a clean sheet, the 12th match in succession. They are still leading the Premier League with 40 points so far, eight ahead of Manchester City and Leicester. They have won all seven matches at home but have not yet kept a single clean sheet there.
On the other hand, Everton (4-8-2) will surely feel frustrated about the outcome of their away match against Leicester. They took an early lead in that match but their opponents scored twice to force them to a 1-2 loss. Everton have now lost two in a row and have won just one of their last five Premier League matches (1-3-1). As a result, they are now sitting at the 17th spot of the league table with 14 points, two ahead of the relegation zone. Everton have struggled to get results on the road so far (1-5-1) but they’ve scored five goals in their last three.
Liverpool struggled to beat Everton in this venue last season, and did so by a slim 0-1. After that the two teams split the points in a goal-less draw in the other match. Four of the last five matches between the two featured Under 2.5 goals. Liverpool have been almost perfect as hosts against Everton in the past couple of decades (13-1-10). And I believe that they will extend that lead, but I also expect Everton to score here.
